Boca Raton , Florida Show with Gad Elbaz

(Itzchak Nissim, Edan Dahan, Big Haviv)

This pic was sent by a fan we met at the Gad Elbaz show in Boca. Just thinking about this show makes me laugh about all the experiences I had down there. One day I'll write a really long blog on it....Shout out to Edan for sending us this pic.

Hartford, Connecticut Show

RABBI JOSEPH GOPIN, left, spiritual leader of Chabad House in West Hartford, performs with Jewish rapper Itzchak Nissim from Montreal at Chanukah on Ice Sunday afternoon at the International Skating Center in Simsbury. Held just before the start of the eight-day celebration, the event was presented by Chabad House and Chabad of the Valley in Avon. It raised funds for victims of Hurricane Katrina, and included public skating and the lighting of the first evening’s candle on the ice menorah. (MARC-YVES REGIS I) Dec. 25, 2005

This was by far one of the most interesting shows I've ever done. I never rapped on ice before but it was definitely a great experience. To my left, Rabbi Gopin, a truly kind man that I had the privilege of getting to know and staying by his family for an awesome Shabat. Many thanks to all of Hartford for a warm reception and special thanks to Rabbi Kulek who brought me out there to begin with.

Updates coming on the Boca Raton show with Gad Elbaz...

Chouva Rap site updated!!

Believe it or not this is the first time since Rosh Hashanah Uman I've had time to update the site. Things have been hectic - but most of all great thank G-d!! Uman this year was beyond words, beyond any description possible. Almost 30 000 different types of jews praying together is incredible. Thank G-d, everyone took a lot light there and now its time for reorganize.

First things first, Itzchak Nissim is definitely making new songs with the Big Haviv. We recently completed 2 tracks in which 1 of them we'll be giving away very soon. Chouva Rap has taken a bit of a twist as well. After numerous emails asking me where can people buy the CD - I really started to think where I want to Chouva Rap to really be and for now Chouva Rap is taking a whole new front.

G-d willing, fans will be able to download songs off of the site for free, we're in the works of creating a newsletter that will go out every 2 weeks and distributing thousands of CD's worldwide for FREE. Yes for Free! How ? lol ! Hashem's going to help. That's for sure. A good friend of mine (Gil Zaguri picture below)has collaborated on the first Shiour (Torah class) + Chouva Rap song CD entitled : "Conversations of Faith" featuring Emounato. The plan is to give it for free to all the young jays in the world. It's a simple as that. Good Chouva Rap for all the young jays! That's what we give em!!

Apologies to all the fans whom I haven't got back to. Just know that Chouva Rap is taken over very soon.....

-->Mr. Gil Zaguri aka"The Essential"

Much love to all the fans and AM Israel

Rav Shalom Arush gives his blessing for Chouva RAP

The month of Elul has been filled with amazing signs and incredible experiences. Montreal had the merit to greet the tzadiq Rav Arush Shilta and many were moved by his amazing blessings and his unique sense of being simple. Most of the time the Rav was telling us jokes and explaining the importance of keeping a smile.

I had the priviledge of meeting the Rav on numerous occassions and participating in "Group Hitbodedoute" sessions in the forest. By far an amazing experience. Ever since his visit, I have been rethinking the whole chouva rap concept and it's taking new shape and form. Stay tuned for some pretty big changes in the short term. Chouva Rap might be a lot more accessible to the whole jewish world...

What is Chouva Rap ?

Let's begin with the proper pronunciation of "Chouva". In reality, it really should be "Techouva" but "Chouva" was just an abbreviation that was common and that many of our friends used. It eventually evolved into a slang that got quite addictive. "Techouva" in hebrew means to return and that's basically the literal translation : "Return Rap" . But return to what  ? Or to who ? ...

Chouva Rap was not just the album title. For me, Chouva Rap was the barrier breaking type of music I always imagined and wanted to make and thank G-d am making! But seriously, there are so many talented jews out there making music, acting, creating plays, doing all types of stuff and when I think of Chouva Rap, it encompasses all that. The Chouva Rap concept, if I can even call it that, is about using popular mediums and expressing judaism always respecting everyone's views, but more importantly it allows "baal techouva" jews to mesh both worlds (their previous life and now their new one) to a distinct type of message.

To understand this fully, we have to back track. For someone who is new to all this it may sound confusing. You see when you analyze jewish events, whether it be music, movies or anything else it always is subconsciously compared to non-jewish events. And for some reason, there is a stigma attached and unfortunately it never really gets the respect it deserves. Chouva Rap is about breaking that down. I like to think of Chouva Rap as redefining what jewish rap is. Breaking all the stereotypes associated with it. No more funny jewish raps or parody type of songs.

Take a look at Matisyahu who honestly made a huge impact and paved the way for a lot of jewish artists. To me that's chouva rap, even though its not rap in it's literal sense, it accomplishes what I feel jews need to do in the world.

Anyway's, that's all for now. Look out for more philosophical "Chouva Rap " articles in the future ....
